What are non-woven spunlace wipes?

Learn about non-woven spunlace wipes

Spunlaced fabrics are unique in their composition and structure. They are made of "spunlace nonwovens". To explain, this is actually a series of fabrics made using a process (invented by DuPont in the 1970s, also known as spunlace) that combines rows of high powered water jets "Intertwined" (or intertwined) together, hence the name spunlace.

Several different fibers can be used in the hydroentanglement process, but for wet wipes, wood pulp and polyester are the most popular. When these fibers are interwoven, high powered water jet technology provides the fabric with great strength in both directions without the use of adhesives or glues.

Additionally, spunlace fabrics are lightweight compared to most woven fabrics. The woven fabric is 4 to 8 ounces per pound, while the spunlace fabric provides increased strength and absorbency at 1.6 to 2.2 ounces per pound. The benefit to you, the end user, is that wipe manufacturers using spunlaced fabric can give you more wipes per pound.

Uses and Benefits of Spunlace Wipes

Knowing the history of the products you use is fun; recognizing their benefits to your business and ultimately your bottom line is key. And, spunlace wipes are really worth it.

Initially, these fabrics were used in medical supplies, specifically disposable patient gowns and drapes that were soft, lint-free and had a blood-absorbent coating to protect operating room doctors and nurses from the AIDS virus. As a result, the spunlace nonwoven industry came into being.

Over time, more and more businesses have recognized their benefits, one of which is the fact that they are incredibly cost-effective. Because they're lighter than other similar woven products, you get more wipes per pound. And, great value for money. That said, just because they cost less doesn't mean you need to sacrifice quality, they're essentially lint-free, soft, solvent-resistant, and strong when used wet or dry. Because they're such a bargain, most end users just throw them away and just use a new wipe for each job. This gives each task the added benefit of a completely clean start, keeping machines and surfaces free of unwanted deposits.
