As for picking, with the promotion of mechanized picking of cotton in China, the proportion of cotton mechanical harvest in Xinjiang has reached 42% in 2019.

Since the 1990s, the regional center of cotton production in China has gradually shifted from the Yellow River basin to Xinjiang. At present, Xinjiang is the largest and most important cotton producing area in China.
